Midtown Buzz Named Finalist for Atlanta Magazine Groundbreaker Awards

If you haven't heard the news yet, we've been nominated for the 2014 Atlanta Magazine Groundbreaker Award.  We're of course honored and excited, and now we need your help to win the award. Here's the link where you can vote; voting is open until September 30th. Atlanta Magazine will then announce the winner on October 9th during a special ceremony. This year's Groundbreaker Award focuses on education and learning. From the Atlanta Magazine website:

The eleven members of Groundbreakers, class of 2014, contribute to making us collectively smarter, and serve as examples to their peers.

Our nominated project, Midtown Buzz, is a partnership between Georgia Tech and Midtown Alliance focusing on enriching Midtown Atlanta for you and others who live, work and play here. We do that by developing mobile applications to enhance the Midtown experience. Over the past year and a half we've hosted hackathons, storytelling workshops, brainstorming workshops and open houses for the Atlanta community to share their ideas that could be turned into apps for the entire community. IPaT and Midtown Alliance have also just launched a brand new Midtown Buzz website where you can submit your ideas, find out about upcoming Midtown Buzz events and the projects we're working on.

Georgia Tech researchers have already developed some great apps for the city. Cycle Atlanta records and shares data about your bicycle trips to make Atlanta a better place to ride. There's also OneBusAway, an app that provides real-time arrival information for MARTA and other transportation agencies. Take a look at the video below to learn more about Cycle Atlanta, OneBusAway and the Midtown Buzz Initiative. (Oh, and please remember to vote!)
